Powder coating is a durable finish applied electrostatically – the process works like a magnet, where the “charged” powder particles adhere to the chosen surface. This produces a smooth, uniform coverage which cannot be achieved by painting. It is also resistant to corrosion and rusting, making it ideal for use outdoors.
Although we mostly use this for wheels, we can actually apply powder coating to any item requiring a durable, uniform coating. Subject to size, we can coat anything made of metal, both old and new.
A powder coating is made up of polymer resins and various other ingredients including a pigment where required. This has been mixed, melted and cooled, before being ground into a fine powder. We then apply the powder coatings to your wheels or other items using a spray gun which electrostatically charges the powder, making it stick magnetically to the grounded metal of the wheel.
Once the coating has been applied, we use a curing oven which causes a chemical reaction in the powder. It hardens and becomes resistant to most forms of wear and tear or corrosion.
